Mitutoyo Caliper Error Code E--05 Jun 2026

Based on field reports and Mitutoyo technical bulletins, the following events trigger E--05:

A dying battery (below 2.7V under load) cannot maintain a stable reference voltage for the capacitive encoder. The signal becomes noisy, and the processor interprets the noise as "excessive speed" or "garbage signal."

Officially, Mitutoyo does not repair calipers at the component level. Their policy is to replace the entire slider/display assembly. For a $150-$250 caliper, the repair cost (labor + part) often exceeds 70% of a new unit. Unless it’s a $600+ model like the ABSOLUTE Digimatic with data output, it’s more economical to buy new.
