If the official Canon driver proves impossible to install, Windows 11 offers a universal escape hatch: the Generic Text Only driver or the Microsoft IPP Class Driver. For basic text printing, the Generic driver works. For scanning, Windows 11 includes Windows Fax and Scan or the “Windows Scan” app from the Microsoft Store, which supports many legacy scanners via WIA (Windows Image Acquisition). The trade-off is functionality: you lose maintenance utilities (ink level monitoring, print head cleaning, alignment), advanced paper types, and borderless photo printing.
