Set in Los Angeles in 1967, the film follows (Elizabeth Reaser), a widowed mother who runs a séance scam from her home to support her two daughters: teenage Paulina (Annalise Basso) and young Doris (Lulu Wilson). To add authenticity to their act, Alice introduces a Ouija board into the household. Unbeknownst to them, the board opens a genuine doorway to malevolent spirits. Young Doris becomes possessed by a vengeful entity named “Marcus,” and the family must fight to save her soul before the evil consumes them all.
