The RTL8187 is a popular wireless adapter chip developed by Realtek, a well-known Taiwanese company that specializes in designing and manufacturing communication and networking chips. The RTL8187 chip is widely used in various wireless adapters, USB dongles, and network interface cards (NICs) due to its reliability, stability, and compatibility with various operating systems.

Because the hardware is obsolete (802.11g standard, max 54Mbps), Realtek has not released a native Windows 10 driver. The drivers we use are "legacy" drivers patched for compatibility.
