Do not install the x86 version on a 64-bit OS expecting better compatibility. It will cause the Canon ScanGear component to fail with a "0x8007000E" (out of memory) error on high-resolution scans.
The "Hot" version uses a faster discovery protocol (SLP) that some firewalls block. Fix: Manually add the scanner by IP. Inside ScanGear, go to Scanner Selection > Add > specify IP and port 1865 (Canon’s proprietary scanning port). Then apply the "Hot Persistence" registry tweak: canon composite user software v0830x86x64 hot
