The film is based on the real-life experiences of Marcus Luttrell (played by Mark Wahlberg), a former US Navy SEAL who was part of a four-man team that was sent on a mission to capture or kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shah. The team, which includes Luttrell, Michael Murphy (played by Taylor Kitsch), Daniel Dietz (played by Emile Hirsch), and Matthew Axelrod (played by Ed Harris), is dropped into the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, where they are tasked with gathering intelligence on Shah's movements.
However, things take a drastic turn when the team is ambushed by a group of heavily armed Taliban fighters. As the team tries to fend off the attackers, they realize that they are vastly outnumbered and outgunned. Despite being severely injured, Luttrell and his team manage to hold off the attackers for hours, but eventually, they are forced to call in airstrikes to save their lives.
Their decision leads to a ferocious firefight against a massive force of Taliban fighters. The film is brutally realistic. It doesn’t glorify war; it shows the sheer terror, pain, and brotherhood of combat.
